“Workcation” is the latest buzzword in the millennial business world and put simply it is a temporary trip that combines work and vacation. The idea is to take a holiday from the workplace, but not work itself. A workcation generally entails working remotely while resting only at the usual times (after the workday or on weekends, assuming that you work a standard five-day week). Workcations (or workolidays/wolidays) allow you to work remotely while including leisure activities that let you unwind and relax.
Taking a workcation gives you the chance for a change of scenery, without using precious annual leave days. You still get to enjoy a fun new place or spend time with far-away family or friends during your lunch breaks, evenings and weekends. Workcations are likely to change up your routine and help refresh your horizons and outlook, which can do wonders for productivity and creative juices.
Until recently, the idea of becoming a digital nomad or embracing a laptop lifestyle has been reserved for influencers and those with the most flexible work setups. However, with more than half the world now working-from-home, workcations are becoming more common. While the acronym WFH historically stood for “Working From Home,” it’s taking on another meaning: “Working From Hotel or Holiday.” The lockdowns around the world forced many nonessential workers to adapt their homes into impromptu offices indefinitely, but as Zoom fatigue and stir-crazy feelings settled in, a workcation to blend business and pleasure has become a tempting option.
Apart from the COVID-19 situation that forced people into working from homes, workcations are also becoming more popular due to technological advancements – laptops, collaboration tools, teleconferencing platforms, and all kinds of gadgets that aid a productive remote work environment.
If you have the opportunity to work remotely, why not do it from one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Cape Town! There are hundreds of reasons why Cape Town is an ideal workcation destination – the beaches, mountains, winelands, good weather, excellent value fine dining, variety of festivals and events, cultural melting pot, golf courses, outdoor activity and adventure options, abundant weekend getaways within a short drive from the city… just to name a few.
Staying active is important to keep a good work-life balance. It’s even better if you can enjoy being outside in the nature at the same time. Cape Town is perfect to get your daily dose of exercise after work. Go surfing, climbing, mountain biking, hiking, diving, kite surfing… You can literally do any type of outdoor sport that doesn’t require snow. All within less than a 30-minute drive from the city centre. No need to go to the gym!
We have put together some very attractively priced workcation packages including 14 to 30 days (or longer) in an apartment in either central Cape Town or in the Greenpoint precinct, with the option to include car rental (and free parking) for the duration of the stay. These are just the basic packages and we can easily add services to these according to specific requirements, e.g. booking co-working and meeting spaces or supplying IT and admin support.
Cape Town is also a great base from which to explore the rest of the country… and even continent. There are direct flights to Kruger for a must-do safari, as well as direct flight connections to Namibia, Victoria Falls and Botswana. Why not end a Cape Town workcation with a real holiday?!
