What is required for arrival in South Africa?
Airports Company South Africa urges travellers to be absolutely certain of their eligibility to fly and that they are in possession of valid visas to enter or re-enter South Africa before booking flights.
Travellers are asked to download the Covid Alert South Africa mobile app (from Google Play for android or App Store for Apple users) and must comply with the following requirements:
• On arrival, travellers will need to present a negative Covid-19 test result not older than 72 hours from time of departure;
• All travellers will be screened on arrival and those presenting with symptoms will be required to have a Covid-19 test (at their own cost); and
• Where necessary (if found to be Covid-19 positive on testing), travellers will need to enter mandatory quarantine facilities at their own cost.
What safety measures are in place at airports?
• Screening of passengers before entering the airport building. Those with a temperature over 37.5 degrees will not be permitted to enter.
• Compulsory wearing of face masks that cover the nose and mouth – no one will be allowed to enter unless wearing a mask
• Passengers will be encouraged to check-in online to limit the touching of ID documents and security will request passengers to scan their own boarding passes
• Bathrooms and high touch areas will be frequently sanitised
• Hand sanitisers available at strategic journey touchpoints throughout the terminals. Soap is also provided in all bathroom facilities. Hand sanitisers available throughout the entire terminal building.
• All airport staff wear personal protective equipment complaint with local and WHO guidelines and all airport staff have received occupational health and safety training
• Social distancing signage is up in the terminal buildings, and Covid-19 monitors will ensure that guidelines are enforced
• Check in times for flights have increased to 2 hours for domestic flights and 4 hours for international flights
• Only passengers are allowed to enter the airport terminal buildings, therefore pick-up and drop-off take place outside the building
• Meet and Greet services directly off the aircraft are available, to assist passengers with the arrival process and to meet their pick-up waiting outside the terminal
The South African tourism industry has put in place stringent health-focussed protocols to guide and assist stakeholders within the travel and tourism value-chain including staff, travellers and guests. These are aligned with the latest World Health Organization, National Institute of Communicable Disease and Department of Health guidelines and have been approved by the Department of Tourism. What regulations can clients expect while staying in South Africa?
• Compulsory wearing of face masks – for anyone out in public and for all staff at all facilities at all times
• Wearing of additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff in high contact areas
• Frequent sanitising of high-touch areas
• Frequent sanitising of vehicles and lower carrying capacities
• Screening, temperature checks and hand sanitising when entering buildings and public vehicles
• Hand sanitisers available at strategic touch points and soap available in public bathrooms for hand washing
• Minimal handling and exchanging of cash/cards/travel documentation
• Extensive training to all staff (be this at the airport, at accommodation establishments, transport providers, etc.)
• Procedures to follow should someone have a high temperature or Covid-19 symptoms
• Social distancing signage and Covid-19 monitors to ensure that guidelines are enforced
• Increased check-in times at airports
• Limited/reduced numbers at attractions to allow for social distancing
• Markers to manage queueing
• No buffets at hotels and restaurants – plated/a la carte meals only
What Tourism Facilities and Services are open to visitors?
Almost all tourist services and facilities have re-opened in South Africa. This includes:
• Hotels, lodges, B&Bs, guest houses, self-catering accommodation
• Restaurants, shops, banks, Foreign Exchange Bureaus
• All major tourist attractions, activities and excursions
• National Parks and Nature Reserves
• Museums
What measures will Southern Africa 360 have in place to ensure the health and safety of clients travelling with us?
OUR POST COVID REASSURANCE:
• We are able to arrange a meet and greet service directly off the aircraft, to assist clients through the arrival process and to meet their transfer/guide
• Meet and Greet at Airports within SA which includes extensive information and briefings on the COVID-19 protocols for the country.
• A Covid-Kit will be given on arrival, including a complimentary 3-layer cloth mask and minimum 80% alcohol 50ml hand sanitizer for each guest
• Screening at hotels and tourist attractions to assist clients
• Daily Temperature checks might be done by hotels and at certain attractions
• Daily sanitising of all vehicles
• Seating capacity in all private vehicles reduced by 30-50% (maximum of 2 pax in a sedan, 4 pax in an 8-seater and 8 pax in a 14-seater vehicle for example)
• Digital vouchers and itineraries sent to guests’ mobile via WhatsApp or email on arrival.
