Chobe National Park, famous for having Africa’s largest elephant population, is home to an estimated 120,000 elephants. The park’s lifeline, the Chobe River, creates a dramatic setting where hundreds of elephants gather during the dry season. Visitors can witness remarkable scenes of these gentle giants swimming, playing, and crossing the river, their trunks raised like snorkels above the water. The river’s banks become a social hub where family herds interact, youngsters playfully splash, and bulls engage in friendly sparring matches.

Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserve, boasts a population of approximately 45,000 elephants. The park’s landscape, characterized by vast open plains and teak forests, provides excellent visibility for wildlife viewing. Unlike Chobe’s riverfront focus, Hwange’s numerous waterholes create multiple elephant-viewing hotspots throughout the park. During the dry season (August to October), these waterholes become crucial gathering points where elephants demonstrate their complex social behaviors and family bonds.

Both parks offer unique viewing perspectives. The Herero tribe also known as Ovaherero are traditionally pastoralists and have homesteads in various parts of Namibia, mostly the eastern, central and the north-eastern areas of the country. The people apart of this tribe speak Otjiherero a language and there are about 211 700 that speak it. The Herero people today are known for their modernised fashion that was heavily influenced by the Germans during the colonial period. The Herero men wear military style outfits and the Herero women adopted floor length gowns from that time but have added vivid colours and patterns that are a true representative of the people. These dresses can incorporate up to 10 metres of fabric and the most distinctive feature of the women’s dress is their horizontal horned headdress, the otjikaiva, which is a symbol of respect, worn to pay respect to the cows that have sustained the Herero. The Herero people have a mix of modernised ways but still stick closely to their traditions. Having your clients take a visit to see the Herero people is not only a once in a life time experience but also a very rewarding one as they will have the opportunity to see first-hand their unique way of life.

Another are the Himba tribe who are semi-nomadic indigenous people that can be found living in the Kaokoland Region in Northern Namibia. The tribe speak OtjiHimba (which is a variation of Herero). The Herero and Himba people were originally one tribe before separation due to a drought that occurred in the area thus they have a few similarities but due to the need for adaption there are now more differences between them. Unlike the Herero the Himba men and women both wear traditional outfits made of calfskin and are easily identified due to their hair and skin being a distinct red/orange colour characteristics due to the otjize paste, a cosmetic mixture of butterfat and ochre pigment, to cleanse the skin over long periods due to water scarcity and protect themselves from the extremely hot and dry climate of the Kaokoland as well as against mosquito insect bites. The Himba people have become a well-known image of South Africa due to their distinct traditional ways. These people have a traditional approach to life and will allow your clients to see how they have used their natural environment necessary adaption.

The San also known as Bushmen are a part of various indigenous hunter gathers and are widely spread across Southern Africa. The San speak a variety of languages including all languages of the Khoe, Kx’a, and Tuu language families. Traditionally the San’s way of life and their levels of authority was an egalitarian society they had hereditary chiefs but their authority was limited. The San made decisions among themselves by consensus with women being highly respected and treated as equals. San economy was a gift economy, based on giving each other gifts regularly rather than on trading or purchasing goods and services. Due to their difficult and unpredictable environment they have adopted by using what is around them in order to sustain their life styles. The San are mainly known for their rock art and engravings that are scattered across Southern Africa and these act as a story teller that gives us insight into their past ways of life. Sossusvlei is a clay pan that is covered with sand that is rich in salt making the area white in appearance. The dunes surrounding this is area nearly reach 400m high some of the highest in the world. One way of viewing this spectacular destination as well as its surroundings is via a hot air balloon which provides a thrilling adventure over a rare view.  

Another clay pan just out of Sossusvlei is Deadvlei which means “dead marsh” in English, this area is covered with skeletons of dead trees that are nearly 900 years old due to a period of drought that hit the area leaving it as forest frozen in time. This area serves as a photographic haven due to the stunning contrasts between the blue sky, white ground, black trees and the red sand dunes surrounding. 

Some the iconic dunes in the areas surrounding Sossusvlei include Dune 45 and Big Daddy. Dune 45 due to its fascinating shape and accessibility makes it one of the most photographed dunes in the world. This dune was named Dune 45 as it is situated 45km from Sesrium Gate which is the main access point to the Namib-Naukluft National Park and the sand making up this dune is nearly 5 million years old. Visitors are allowed to climb this dune that is 85m high, so be sure to arrive early to experience the sunrise over the Sossusvlei area. Big Daddy is situated past Sossusvlei near Deadvlei. Big Daddy just like Dune 45 can also be climbed but it is a much more strenuous climb due to its height, the dune itself is 325m making it one of the highest dunes in the Sossusvlei area and provides spectacular views of the Deadvlei area.

Another must see in this area is the Sesrium Canyon which has been shaped over millions of years by the Tsauchab River and is about 1m long and 30m deep. The canyon is situated 4.5km from the Namibia-Naukluft National Park and is one of the few places in the Sossusvlei that holds water throughout the year. 

Sossusvlei is one of the top destinations in the Namibia region and one that attract attention purely because of its natural beauty. Namibia has 26 parks and reserves, the most famous of these parks is the Etosha National Park. Namibia’s endangered species include wild dog, black rhino, puku and oribi. There are 8 mammal species endemic to Namibia, including the Black faced Impala, several mice, gerbils and bats. The Namibian desert is well known for its large number of endemic dune dwellers, especially lizards, of which there are 30 endemic species.

The puku antelope is limited to about 100 individuals along the Chobe River in Botswana and the Linyati marshes in Namibia. The country also has the largest population in southern Africa of cheetah’s not contained within national parks. There are over also over twenty species of antelope ranging from the largest, the eland, to the smallest, the Damara dik-dik. Namibia s also home to a host of small mammals such as mongoose, jackal and the honey badger.

The African fish-eagle is the national bird of Namibia. You may see many birds on your travels through Namibia in a variety of habitats such as along floodplains, in grasslands or in reed beds. The birds of Namibia include ostrich, cranes, owls, bee-eaters and African warblers. These are just some of the 676 confirmed species of avifauna in Namibia, with Etosha National Park being home to an 340 bird species that make up an impressive mix that ranges from flamingos to the colourful lilac-breasted roller and eagles soaring high above.

Namibia has some of the most extraordinary vegetation, all adapted to harsh desert environments. Namibia lies in the second driest area in Africa after the Sahara, Namibia is the most arid country in sub-Saharan Africa, the landscape is characterised by deserts and mountains. Namibia can be split into four distinct vegetation zones. Together these four zones support over 4,000 seed bearing vascular plants, 120 different species of tree, over 200 endemic plant species and 100 varieties of lichen. The most well-known plant is actually one of the oldest in the world – the Welwitschia Mirabilis, you will find this interesting plant that lives in the sand dunes, rocky landscapes and coastal deserts surviving through severe droughts and windswept environment.  Some of the types of flora you will find in Namibia are trees, succulents, herbs and shrubs to name a few.

This coastal city and its sandy beaches face the Atlantic Ocean, Swakopmund is located in Namibia, west of the capital, Windhoek. Established by German colonists in 1892, the city’s colonial landmarks include the Swakopmund Lighthouse and the Mole, an old sea wall. Next to the lighthouse, the Swakopmund Museum documents Namibian history. Inland, the elegant Swakopmund Railway Station, now a hotel, also dates to the colonial era.

If you have time to explore Swakopmund, a walk around the area visiting the Lighthouse, Railway Station, Museum, the Mole, local shops selling souvenirs are a good way to experience the history of the town. At the southern tip of Africa, where two of the world's greatest oceans converge, a total experience of land, sea and the rainbow culture of the Western Cape offer you the most exciting whale watching venues in the world! South Africa is one of the best destinations worldwide for watching marine wildlife, whether from land, boat or plane you can expect spectacular annual visits from southern right and humpback whales and enormous pods of dolphins.

Every year, southern right whales migrate from their icy feeding grounds off Antarctica to warmer climates, reaching South Africa in June. The country’s coastal waters teem with the giant animals, mating, calving and rearing their young, the peak calving season is July and August. The animals, often mere meters from the shore, provide unsurpassed whale watching opportunities between June and November offering spectacular displays of raw power and elegant water acrobatics. Humpbacks migrate through the region between May and December each year, while Bryde's whales are found slightly further offshore all year round.

Good land based whale spotting can be done along the entire Cape Whale Route, this 900-kilometre-long stretch of whale watching coastline starts along the south of Cape Town and extends to Durban. The route traverses several famous protected areas, including the Garden Route, Tsitsikamma National Park and the Transkei.

Another good spot to experience whale watching is in the 34 000 hectares De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Overberg (just three hours from Cape Town), this is one of the largest natural areas managed by CapeNature. This beautiful reserve is a popular spot for hiking, cycling, bird or whale watching. The neighbouring marine reserve is a World Heritage Site that extends 5km out to sea and is one of the largest marine protected areas in Africa. It conserves a vast and fascinating variety of marine life. Shop, dine and enjoy entertainment in a spectacular working harbour. The V&A Waterfront is a mixture of hotels, stores, restaurants, leisure and entertainment facilities. Spanning 123 hectares the V&A Waterfront offers a space where you can work, live, eat and play. With so much on offer, there really is something for everyone on offer.

Groot Constantia – Experience South Africa’s oldest wine producing estate, established in 1685. Simon van der Stel’s manor house, a superb example of Cape Dutch architecture, is maintained as a museum at Groot Constantia. Set in beautiful grounds, there is a large tasting room as you enter the estate. Further on is the free orientation centre, which provides an overview of Groot Constantia’s history, and the beautifully restored homestead. Other activities in and around Constantia include the Constantia Valley Zip & Sip, the Constantia Cape Peninsula Tour and the Sunset Wine & Dine.

Zeitz MOCAA Museum – The Zeits Museum of Contemporary Art Africa is the largest art museum in Africa, and the largest museum in the world showcasing the art of Africa and its diaspora. The museum is dedicated to researching, collecting, and exhibiting this art, and houses an impressive collection of work from all over the continent and beyond. Opened on the 22^nd of September 2017 the exhibition space covers 6,000 square meters over nine floors, with 100 gallery space.

Boulders Penguin Colony – A serene spot where penguins party! Just a 40-minute drive from Cape Town lies the beautiful Boulders Beach – home to a colony of some 3000 delightful African penguins. This picturesque area has enormous boulders and small sandy coves. A boardwalk runs from the Boulders Visitor Centre at the Foxy Beach end of the protected area – part of the Table Mountain National Park – to Boulders Beach, where you can meet the penguins at one of the most visited beaches and one of the only places in the world where you get this close to African Penguins.

District Six Museum – It’s impossible not to be emotionally moved by this museum, which celebrates the once lively multiracial area that was destroyed during apartheid in the 1960s and 1970s, its 60,000 inhabitants forcibly removed. Inside the former Methodist Mission Church, home interiors have been recreated, alongside photographs, recordings and testimonials, all of which build an evocative picture of a shattered but not entirely broken community. The District Six Museum, established in December 1994, works with the memories of the District Six experience and with that of forced removals more generally.
